Walk to Safeguard Judicial Independence

Venue: Palace of Justice, Putrajaya
The Walk to Safeguard Judicial Independence was successfully held, bringing together members of the legal fraternity in a unified call to uphold and defend the independence of the judiciary in Malaysia. The walk, organised by the Malaysian Bar, was a response to recent developments perceived as threats to the integrity and autonomy of the judicial institution.
Approximately 1,600 participants from across the country took part in the peaceful gathering held at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya. The event featured speeches, singing of the national anthem and the formal submission of the memorandum.
The Negeri Sembilan Bar lead by the chairman Mr Karthigesans Shanmugam and comprising of senior practitioners, young lawyers, and members of the Bar Committee also took part in this historical event
The NS Bar’s presence reflected our firm solidarity with the objectives of the walk and our shared commitment to the rule of law and the principle of separation of powers.
The unity displayed by members of the Bar across all states reaffirmed the legal profession’s unwavering stance against any interference with judicial processes.
The NS Bar wishes to thank its members who took the time and effort to attend and stand in solidarity with the Bar Council and fellow members of the legal fraternity. Let this be a reminder that the duty to uphold justice and protect the independence of the judiciary rests with all of us.
